What is Health Information Technology?

Healthcare organizations use technology in a variety of ways. In the past 10 years, the US healthcare system has transitioned to using electronic tools to organize health information about their patients. These tools, health information technology, help healthcare providers and organizations improve the quality of health care, prevent medical errors, reduce health care costs, and increase administrative efficiencies.

Why use a Health Information Exchange?

The term "Health Information Exchange" describes the act of sharing patient health information between two or more entities and describes organizations that make the exchange their business.

This tool, the Solution Center, provides access to the Inbox and the Virtual Integrated Patient Record (VIPR). Inbox stores and organizes test results and Admit, Discharge, Transfer notifications for your patients. The Virtual Integrated Patient Record (VIPR) is a longitudinal community health record that organizes the clinical information of over 10 million patients. Healthcare organizations across the state and the Midwest contribute the health information in real time.
